SHELDON S. BAKER
Sheldon S. Baker obtained his undergraduate degree from Rutgers University, graduated summa cum laude, and was selected to Phi Beta Kappa. He graduated from the Stanford University Law School where he served as an editor of the Law Review and graduated Order of Coif. Mr. Baker is a certified specialist in taxation law, and was a frequent lecturer on the operation of and transfers of closely held and family owned businesses, and succession planning. He also serves as a member of the Board of Directors of several for-profit and not for profit entities.
Mr. Baker was a senior partner of Halstead, Baker & Olson. He joined the firm in 1961 and became a partner in 1965. He is one of the four founding members of BOLD Law.
In addition to his legal practice, Mr. Baker held public office for 24 years as an elected official.
Mr. Baker served as Mayor of Glendale, California 1996-1997. Mr. Baker was an elected Member of the City Council of Glendale California from 1993-2001.
Mr. Baker was an elected member of the Glendale Unified School District Board of Education of Glendale, California from 1965 to 1981 and served as its President during 1968-1969, 1972-1973 and 1979-1980.
He was an elected Member of the Glendale Community College District Board of Education in Glendale, California from 1965 to 1981 and served as that Board's President during 1971-1972, 1975-1976, and 1980-1981.
He was President of the California School Boards Association in 1980, where he provided leadership in education in California. He stressed academic excellence and relationships among teachers, administrators and Board members. He chaired various committees dealing with school finance and employee relations. He was a frequent speaker on education matters throughout California. He served as President of the Los Angeles County School Trustee's Association from 1976 to 1978.
Mr. Baker is involved in numerous civic matters and has served as President of the Verdugo Hills Council Boy Scouts, Kiwanis, alumni organizations, the Glendale Human Relations Coalition, the Salvation Army Corps of Glendale, and the Glendale Memorial Hospital Foundation Board (Chairman). He has received numerous awards and honors for his leadership and service to his community including the Silver Beaver, Golden Antelope, and Distinguished Eagle Scout awards from the Boy Scouts of America and was selected man of the year by the Glendale Chamber of Commerce in 1979.
Mr. Baker retired from the active practice of law in September 2015.
